It Came From Mars
I shot my first movie (that I produced and directed) last week. It was amazing. Now I know this is what I am meant to do. It is something that I enjoy, that I can do well, and just gives me a feeling of accomplishment.
Heres some behind the scenes shots from the movie:
Anyway, I know I am going off onto personal tangents again. Heres some more Sikhi related comments...
Something that bothers me is "Sikh" becoming a community or ethnic name. This is BAD. Our ethnicity is PUNJABI, not SIKH. Sikh is our religion and only people who are Sikh, should be called Sikh. Heres some examples. This girl is supposed to be canada's next immigration minister or something. She is widely known as a "Sikh."
My, I must be doing something wrong in my Sikhi, as I look nothing like that! This is especially bad in the UK. It just seems so wrong that this is the image of Sikhs. If most people saw a real gursikh (most punjabis included) they would be in shock. They have no idea what Sikhi is about. We need to stamp out this disease fast. If people ask, "is that a Sikh?" you say, "no thats a punjabi!"
Explain the difference between an ethnicity and a religion, as there is a big difference. We can't allow punjabis to be known as Sikhs in the eyes of the world, or for them to think they are the panth. This would be a big mistake. Theres certain rules and responsibilities to being a Sikh, and if you cant follow them, accept it! They shouldn't pollute the image of Sikhi. I don't mean to go after this one girl, I am just using her as an example. (So if anyone knows her etc, please don't take this personally)
I am not trying to say I am better than anyone etc, but its just that theres a difference, and we should all make sure that everyone knows about this difference, as its important to our futures. So if we all just make sure that others know the difference between punjabi and Sikh, it will greatly help the Sikh cause and awareness of Sikh issues vs punjabi issues.

I totally agree with you. I find myself having to constantly explain myself to others and I hate it.
Take "Mr.Singh" for example. He is a writer for the local Surrey Now newspaper and has written articles that claim 'Sikhs' favour boys over girls. He goes on and on about how Sikhs even go down to the US to find out the sex of their unborn child and then if it is a girl they have it killed. Is it just me or did Guru Nanak Dev Ji (founder of Sikh religion) not stress the EQUALITY between men and women? Wasn't that one of the first teachings of Guru Nanak?
I am not saying being Punjabi is bad (I am a very culturally oriented person)-I just think others should be aware that there IS a difference between a Sikh and a Punjabi. We should learn this difference and celebrate it because everyone is different-and being different means being unique.
